The Intellectual Farmer (March)
Aside from The Intellectual Farmer being "very cheap," the brothers claim that their agricultural publication "has many of the best agricultural writers" and has valuable hints about "farming, gardening or fruit growing." The publication is produced in hopes that farmers will find success in their honorable field of work--no pun intended. The boys even reach out to their readers and ask them to provide helpful farming tips for others to benefit from, strengthening the bond shared within the farming community.
The Little City Democrat & Trapper
The Little City Democrat & Trapper is a newspaper that contains two very different entries. "Out of the Clutches of the Catholics" raises provocative questions about religious tolerance/tensions in the brother's real world, while "The Adopting of the Whelpley Long Reach Skate" provides a story about a skating competition between teams from the three continents, (1000 skaters from each team, 10,000 spectators, much pomp and ceremony) and in enormous technical detail a comparison of their brands of skates.
Nelson Bros Novelties
In addition to a beautifully detailed cover illustration, The Nelson Bros. Novelties serves as a commercial publication for all-things farming. The book is filled with factual knowledge about farming techniques, reputable seed brands, and even includes a few seed advertisements with customer testimony, poetry, and incredible backstories.
Nelson Bros Seedsmen
Nelson Bros Seedmen is part catalogue, as evidenced by the bold header and two-column layout, and part grower’s guide to plants, mainly vegetables. The catalogue's focus shifts from plant to plant, either discussing the proper way to eat the plant or commentingon the way in which the seeds should be planted. Many of the plants are priced, adding to the commercial influence on many of the Nelson brothers' works.
Set A Drift
Frank and James are stuck at sea in Set A Drift until they find shore. The boys are far from safe once they reach the shore and are faced with bears and jaguars, fighting for their survival on shore. The story's abrupt and inconclusive ending, along with blank pages, suggest that the story is unfinished.
Sunny Shore Record
The Sunny Shore Record is a regional periodical/newsletter about “Sunny Shore” and the surrounding area. The four-page document is comprised of local stories, a “condensed news of the week” section, “general topics of the times” section, an illustration of a “modern egg plant shelter," “New Poplington News," a descriptive write-up and illustration of the “LadyNell Strawberry," “comic stories,” and advertisements
