The first page of Bethia’s account of her sister Catherine’s illness and death. According to her note at the end of the manuscript, this was copied out in 1875 from her old journal.
“It was on the afternoon of the 24th of July 1830 that our sweet little Catherine was first attacked with her last illness which was typhus fever. She had been as well as usual and Theophilus remarked at dinner-time that he thought she would escape a fever this year as she looked so well…”
