Title
War News Scrapbook
Subject
Periodicals, War, Scrapbooks
Description
This scrapbook edition of War News is a change of pace from the other Nelson books. Here the Nelson brothers paste stories from the periodical press into their own paper. Story titles include “In the Wilds of New Mexico,” “The Story of Two-Bits,” “Character Reading by Lead Pencils” (how a pencil can determine a persons character or personality), the first chapter of “The King’s Business,” a “Children’s Page, "“Tiger Cannoneers” (details of the battles of the Washington Artillery of New Orleans), and a cartoon called “Strictly Private.” Very cleverly, the boys stamp their own paper's title "War News" at the top of most pages and “Continued” at the end of excerpts that leave readers hanging.
