No one to lead the, would they be able to keep the indians away? But providence helped them and gave them a leader Clumfield and his men had done a little exploring since the last ship went away

The party arrive

In less than two months from the time that Clumfield sent out the last ship two of the ships from Block Archipelago the other coming wrecked in a storm soon after their starting there were one hundred and one men counting in those who had been wrecked and rescued and counting in those who had been left there were on hundred and fifteen. David Blug was elected president of this colony. They named this new land Clumfields Land for the one who discovered it. But David Blug turned out to be a man that they did not want as a president for he pocketed all the money that belonged to the colony and cheated the people every time he had a chance till the people were heartily sick of him but they could not get rid of him with out an

Order from the government so a man named Holt sent in a petition to Block Archipelago that they might have a new president and telling how David Blug was acting so one morning a large fine ship sailed in to have it and Jim Jinks ordered that David Blug be hung for that was what they did with thieves in that time. So he with a body of soldiers started for David’s house when they got near to it they were fired on by the guards but the guards were put to rout and Jim Jinks entered but no David was to be seen but as one of the men looked out of the window he saw David Blug going off across the field for the forest so all the people went in pursuit of him. They followed him through the woods stumbling over dead and fallen logs and finally caught him climbing up a tree and hung him on the very tree to which he was holding when caught. On April 24 1820 Jim Jinks with a party of followers started out on an exploring trip they headed [page break] eastward straight over the mountain they had a hard climb going up and then they followed the valleys as they went down as they were going down the other side four men were fallen sick so Jim Jinks stopped and built a small stone house and left four guns and some provisions for the sick men then he went on. One day an old she bear attacked them and killed one man but she was killed and soon eaten and after several days maron they came to the edge of the forest and saw stretching before them a vast plain of rolling grass, stretching away as far as eye could see but Jim Jinks made up his mind to cross it when they had got a little ways out a party of indians attacked them out of the grass a lot of arrows began to fly this excited Jim Jinks party and they started on the run for the Indians. The Indians sprang up and with hardwood clubs and knives started for Jim Jinks party but the men club-
