JIMMY
The boy I am going to speak of is about ten years old tall straight and stout he is the son of Ethan Allen and like him in many ways the greatest of which is his fondness for the water. Ethan Allen has made him a boat six feet long but I am wandering of from my subject besides being the son of Ethan Allen (which would make other boys happy) he was the king of the other boys. One day he asked his mother if he could go down the river that ran along back of their house in his boat she told him he might so he got in to his boat and started of[f] down the river he had got most a mile from home when he was aware that the current was stronger than twas before he came down but he did not think much about it and so he rowed on but pretty soon he thought it was time to go back he turned around his boat but in doing so he noticed it turned around kind of hard he had taken about two strokes up stream when there was a big wave that almost lifted his boat on end he went down stream two [hords?] when the waves rolled along the boat would rock very hard and almost tip over but he managed to keep it right side up he went along at a fearful rate bouncing and rocking he managed to get in strokes once in a while at last he got into a little cove and he thought he was safe but the next wave that come swept into the cove with power
[second column]
enough to break most anything it lifted Jimmies boat way up on its chest and dashed it against a large rock with the force of a giant and broke it to splinters Jimmy gave a jump and cleared the danger then he was dashed onward with the speed of lightning at last he was caught in a little eddy and whirled round so fast that he could not do anything but at last Jimmy saw something floating about caught hold of it and found it was as one side of his boat he jumped on to it and floated of[f] down stream the water was icy cold it being in the spring the ice had got out of the river though and so there was no ice cave to encounter and so he floated on he had wondered what made the water so high now he thought the Scytherville dam had broken away. He was getting nearly exhausted with his effort to get to shore when he came around a bend and saw ahead of him Pillsburys mill and dam. He thinks he is gone for but he sees a bush and grabs hold of it and jumps on shore and goes some and tells all about it [page break] Mrs Allen sent him right to bed and he did not stir out doors for a week and seeing Jimmies boat got smashed father Allen made him a new boat better and stronger than the other it is ten feet long by four feet wide Jimmy thinks it is just nice

King
The gun boat I am going to speak of is the King it was the first one built it was nine hundred feet long and very slim it will go very fast it carries nineteen guns it sailed about the coast to step the rows of the mills along the rivers it tipped a little when first set in to the water but it was fixed it was then the largest one big continent owned but now is the smallest and worst the western is the longest now the King at last was sold to Burt S Green for on a thousand dollars and is now coasting along after pirates around Round Continent

The Banner
This gunboat was the next made and is one hundred feet longer than the King it is one thousand feet long it is well formed and carries thirty two cannons [rest of page blank] [page break]
