The Colt's Revolver
The Colt's Revolvers are tried and true revolvers manufactured by a reliable firm. The Colts Revolvers are the same to revolvers that the Winchester repeaters are to the rifles and they are known the world over as the strongest shooting the handsomest and most durable revolver known without any exception whatever. They are highly endorsed by the most reliable sportsmen and target shooters and were adopted by the war department of the U.S.A. many years ago and still remain the peerless revolver for the public

The single action army "frontier" Colts Revolver for target shooting is my favorite but for emergincies a double action navy revolver 6 in barrel would be preferable. It was the durability and excellence of its workings that persuaded the ordnance bureau [page 2] to adopt the double action navy colts revolver for the U.S. Navy. The perfect workmanship of the Colts have induced many to buy them. The single action revolvers take the lead in close shooting the heavier the better.

Large Gage Guns the Best
Dont tell me that small bore guns are coming into style for I dont stuff as easy as a turkey some persons claim that the rifles of today shoot a smaller ball than of olden times: this all mat be true but as for shot guns it is not so for the old muskets and shot guns of fifty years ago were usualy fourteen gage and the nowaday favorites are 12 gage guns thus proving that the guns of today are the largest bore the advocats of the 22 calibre rifles say, what difference does it make whether you have a 22 or 56 calibre rifle if you only hit a vital spot, I say a great deal providing that a 56 does not go any further than a 22 it makes a large hole thus letting more blood out and breaking more bones the ball is also heavier thus striking with more force.

I say never go hunting bears with a 22 rifle nor moose with a 38 cal shot gun give me a 44 calibre rifle and a twelve gage shot gun [page 3] for all hunting.

Buffalo Bill Shooting a Buffalo
Buffalo Bill jumped onto his broncho
And stuck his revolver in his belt
Says he I'm off for Indians "O ho"
If I see any animal I'll have his pelt
And over the prairie he tore
A buffalo he spied on the plain
So he pulled out his Colts 44
But he's never been seen again

A Paddle For Life.
It was in the fall of 1895 that a jam of logs collected above the great dam in the Highland River the dam was perched upon a high ledge about a mile above the prospering town of West Highland’s. It was a very high structure but was thought to be secure untill now with such an awful weight resting upon it, it bent out and every now and then a brace or slight timber breaking the people hourly expected the dam would hurl itself into the river below and an awful flood would flow through the town which was situated on the river bank. The floating logs and ice would ruin the town and a great loss of life and [page 4] property would ensue. All this had passed through the mind of Franz Allen whose family resided in the outskirts of West Highland’s. Born and bred on the river he knew every buoy and current in the pond.

The mass of logs were some runaways from an old lumber camp further up stream and the high water had dislodged them and now were breking down the dam. Franz had ascertained that the whole jam was loosely hinged in the middle where a few well directed blows would break the jam and the logs would pass over the dam in safety. He had been hovering round the dam all day. All this while Franz had been thinking of a [project? prose?] "Yes I can do it" he said jumping up and hurried off up stream to where his little 8 foot canoe was kept soon he started down towards the dam in his canoe keeping close to the shore he sped on.

The crowd gathered on the banks began to conjecture as to what he could be doing in such a whirlpool but they were soon to know. Franz had thought there are no lumber man within fifty miles of here and none of the men here can walk a rolling log. I must do it he said to himself fiercely and a though of his father and mother rose before him and spurred him on I may be killed though Franz but what is my life to a thousand he swung out into the current when within about a hundred feet of the dam and offered straight for the center of the jam nearer and nearer he came soon he dropped his paddle and taking an axe from the bottom of his canoe [page break] stood up straight clad in an outing shirt bareheaded and with sleeves rolled up he made an imposing spectacle his purpose was now seen by the immense crowd that had gathered at both ends of the [dam?]. At length his canoe bumped the foremost log and serving himself for the stroke lifted his axe high above his head and brought it down with terrific force

"One—two—three—four the fifth fetched it and with a crash and rumble the whole jam began to move. Franz turned dropped his axe and grabbed up his paddle but just as he heard the ringing cheer of the populace he was thrown violently into the icy water.

The meddlesome foreign powers better keep to themselves an not meddle with American people for if they do Uncle Sam will have to give them a gentle remonstrance in the shape of a good sound spanking China, Turkey, England, Spain, look out [page break]

Target, Shooting,
For long mid-range and short shooting the [Remington?] Match Rifle is the recognized favorite. Taking the 40 cal central fire cartridges. For very short distances a Stevens favorite 25 cal rim fire are the most accurate and most sought after. The Winchester Single Shot Rifle are also very fine mid range shooters I should never reccomend a repeating rifle to target shooters as they are too heavy for long range shooting I should choose a 30 cal steel [backeted?] bullet. Millitary hind gauge sight for rear sight and combination front sight
